De-Schooling my son again

 De-Schooling my son again

After trying to give my son the best state education that I can where I live and to try and get an EHCP in place for him I have gone back to home schooling again!

EHCP*

An EHCP outlines any special educational needs that your child has. It also covers the support your local authority must put in place to help your child: The EHCP is a legal document. That means your local authority has a legal obligation to provide the support in the plan.

So my aim now is to apply for one direct and to cut out the school direct.

For six years I have tried to get my son the support I feel that he need but with covid and budget cuts I have been unable to archive this.

So I have chosen to put his health and wellbeing first and have stated to home school him again.

That way I can give him the one to one support I feel that he needs at this moment in time in his life and focus on his strengths and work ion his weakness.

At the moment my sons main weakness is manual dexterity.*

*skill in performing tasks, especially with the hands.

So this is a skill I believe needs working on the most before any thing else can be achieved well.

My son is also left hand and due to this a few things need to altered to help him, today you can get things like left handed scissors.

https://www.anythinglefthanded.co.uk/

Again I feel that in main stream school these needs where not met and that equipment was not provide for my sons needs due to being left handed.

So I will look at how I can help him improve his manual dexterity at home.

Just like learning to use any part for your body at times you may need help and the right tools to achieve this.

What I have found fopr myslef is that personal that home schooling my children was a really challenge even with all of the usefukl on line information that was avilable.

One of teh main reasons for this was durew to the lack of laptops in the family home  poor internet conection.

Moving with the times 2021

 Moving with the times 2021

5th January 2021

Today was the first day for many to home school their little ones, with the support of your child school being rolled out again on line.

What I have found is who challenging on line leaning will be especially with limited access to technology, the government seam to think that every home is equipment with the up to date technical equipment like laptops, iPhones, iPads and unlimited internet data.

I have 3 children and one very old laptop that I love due to having everything I need I only wish I had three of them.

Looking at new laptops nothing out their come close to mine when it come to storage USB ports and disk drive.

All new one seam to have less storage, no disk dive and fewer USB ports.

So I am back to square one with knowing what to buy and how to move with the times when all of my children games are in disk formate.

I personal do not want my children to be downloading any thing off line and why should I pay to download anything when I already have it to hand?

I really need help with this and would love to hear other parents think.

Bitesize Studying

One thing that I have been allowing my children to do this year is use Bitesize to help them with their studying at home.

This is mainly due to Covid 19 lock-down and trying to make sure that my children keep up to date with their learning and do not fall behind due to not being in a classroom environment.

What I have found is that although they have not wanted to pick up a pen and write they have been happy to study with the aid of reading, colouring, and using online educational support like Bitesize and CBeebies.

Help remember, that if you do allow you children to be online that you follow the on line safety guideline to help protect you r children.

If possible have parent lock on your devises that you are allowing them to use is one way that you can try to keep them safe.

Make sure that they have an account that you have set up for them and remmber that up until the age of 13 they legally can not run any online accounts without parental consent.

I have added the links below that I allow my 6 and 5 year old to use and links to on line safety guideline.

Teach on line smartly and safely.

The Future!

Now that children have returned to education we all need to start looking to the future and see where the rest of 2020 takes us.

We can all only achove this by using baby steps and changes in the way that we all lead your own personal lives.

One thing that Ihave found personal upseating is how 2019 was all about save the world and Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

Now 2020 is the oposit and I am worried about what mesage we are sending the futire generation now that we have become a throw away species again and have only really looked at puting our own personal safety first inorder to stay a live.

One positve thing that we have all learned to do is to live with one and other and to find surpport networks, thought our family, friends, comunity and work.

Many of us have used this time to learn new skills, to work from home and to become more family oriantated and not be runing aroung 24/7 and having to catch the 5.15 train to work or working late at the.office.

But we all know that it was a rollercoster amd the journey is still on going with many faing loss or loved ones nad not being able to fully grive.

Now that your children are back in education even if it is hime scholing still and not state or private education I hope that their future can continue and that more positive changes can be made in the time to come.

I whish every one all the best and a bright and posive future.

Stone soup story

When I was younger I remmber being told a story called Stone Soup.

Like many things that we are taught and that we try to teach the futre generation a lot of them come from telling a story.

In many stories the lesion that are taught are how to be a good and kind person. (Alough this story also teacher deseption too.)

If you look on YouTube there are many versions of this story and it would be a good story to watch or read with your young ones.

They could then talk about it and see if they though what the soilder did was good and kind?

There are a number of questions that you could ask and ways that you could talk about this story and many others to learn things like Eithics too.

What is Eithics?

JACKSPRAT

28TH MARCH 2020

Jack Sprat Could Eat No Fat. Jack Sprat could eat no fat, His wife could eat no lean; And so betwixt them both, They lick'd the platter clean.

At its origins “Jack Sprat” was known as a proverb, and the term used to refers at short people in the 16th century.

Jack Sprat” Lyrics

Jack Sprat could eat no fat.
His wife could eat no lean.
And so between them both, you see,
They licked the platter clean
Jack ate all the lean,
Joan ate all the fat.
The bone they picked it clean,
Then gave it to the cat

AFTER READING THIS RHYME AGAIN WOULD YOU NOT SAY THAT IT IS STILL RELEVANT TODAY?

SO WHEN YOU GO SHOPPING AT THE MOMENT TRY TO BE MORE FRUGAL AND TO STOP “PANIC BUYING.”

25TH MARCH 2020 SCRABBLE

25TH MARCH 2020

SCRABBLE

PLAY SCRABBLE! YESTERDAY FOR ME AND MY CHILDREN WAS A VERY GOOD EDUCATIONAL DAY.

WE PLAYED SCRABBLE.

MY OLDEST SON IS 6 SO HE IS AT THE AGE WHERE HE KNOWS A FEW WORDS AND HOW TO PUT SOUNDS TOGETHER. MY 4 YEAR OLD KNOWS THE ALPHABET

SO YESTERDAY WE PLAYED SCRABBLE FOR THE FIRST TIME AND EVEN FOR POINTS.

WE COULD ONLY PLAY WHILST MY 16MONTH OLD SLEPT SO WE MUST OF PLAYED FOR A GOOD HOUR OR TWO.

DURING THIS TIME I WAS ABLE TO FIND OUT WHAT WORDS, LETTERS AND NUMBERS MY CHILDREN KNEW.

CALLAN (AGED 6), I FOUND WAS VERY INDEPENDENT AND COMPETITIVE, ABLE TO SPELL SOME WORDS WITH FIVE LETTER IN ON HIS OWN.

BRYNDLY (AGED 4) LOVED COUNTING THE NUMBERS AND SHOUTING OUT THE LETTERS, KNOWING WORDS NO BIGGER THAN 2 LETTERS LONG. THIS WAS DUE TO CURRENTLY LEARN SOME KEY WORDS FROM SCHOOL. (FRECRENCY WORDS)

CALLAN I FOUND WAS IS ALSO VERY GOOD AT LONG DIVISION AND CAN DO LONG DIVISION FOR AGED 7-11 YEAR OLD. (HE COMPLETED A WORK BOOK FOR THIS AGE GROUP NEEDING VERY LITTLE SUPPORT.)

MYSLEF I AM THE POLAR OPPOSITE OF THIS AND I AM HAVING MY 6 YEAR OLD WIPING THE FLOOR WITH ME.

WE ALSO USED THE DICTIONARY. I JUST WANTED TO GRAB MY PHONE AND SHOUT INTO IT, SO THAT IT WOULD TELL ME THE CORRECT SPELLING AND THE DIFFINITION OF A WORD.

BUT I SAID TO MYSLEF “NO!”, “STOP!”.

I NEVER LEARNED HOW TO USE A DICTIONARY UNTIL I WAS IN MY 20’S, I FAILED MY GCSE ENGLISH DUE TO DYSLEXIA.

BUT THE OTHER REASON I FAILED WAS DUE TO NOT KNOWING HOW TO USE A DICTIONARY, KNOWING THE MEANINGS OF WORDS AND NOT KNOWING WHAT A KEY WORD WAS.

SO YESTERDAY I STARTED SHOWING CALLAN HOW A DICTIONARY WORKED AND GOT HIM TO WRITE DOWN THE WORDS AND THEIR DICTIONARY DEFINITION.

SO YESTERDAY CALLAN WAS TAUGHT WHAT IS A NOUN? I WILL DO A MINI TEST WITH HOME ON FRIDAY TO SEE WHAT HE LEARNT THIS WEEK AND REMEMBERED.
