Home schooling What should I subject my children to, when home schooling?
Now that I am home schooling my 7 year old son with SEN needs.
One of the big questions that I ask myself fit what should I teach?
Who should I teach it?
At what age should I teach it?
My oldest son still attends main stream school, that is also a Church of England School, over the past 18 months I have see a lot of changes to main stream education.
I saw these changes, before, during and after lock down due to covid 19.
One of the main changes was how much education relied upon becoming more IT based and virtual.
My children stopped
Watching TV
Reading books
Colouring in
Playing out doors
Social interaction in person stopped even in the home.
When it came to returning back to school, both went back for about 6 months before I believed that home schooling would better suit one of my children and not the other,
The key reason was due to SEN needs not being meet and my son being more advanced than some of his pears and it not being recognised.
Now that are home schooling I have tried to strip back the school habits that my son was use to and to teach me that life is full of changes and that in order to grow in the world you have to learn to adapt.
So we now have a number of ways that I teach him, but when and how I should teach some subjects is still something I am unsure on.
My son who is eight is learning about equality, diversity, and what it means to transgender and gender neutral at school.
Who times have changed in the UK, when I was at school this was not have happened and when my parents where sill at school I believe they where taught that people where only male and female and everything else is wrong.
Even when I was at school I was bullied and accused of being a lesbian, when I would class myself being a sexual most days and then polyamorous.other.
I personal thing that my children are two young to be learning this but that is only my point of view.
So when teaching at home I always try and see what my sons school is teaching and when and also what is on the news and in the media at the time.
Due to my children being children I have a right to protect their childhood for many years to come, yet to not be in a bubble that could be a risk to.
I was brought up sheltered and protected too much and know how it effected my transition into adulthood.
So for now I will deal with the basics when they come up in conversation about any subject and not worry about what schools are obligated to teach due to the National Curriculum that is set to in may opinion sheep.
Plus a few shepherds.

Now that is it September 20222, we are back in full home schooling mode.
During the summer holidays we, had a little break and now we are full steam a head.
We have started off lightly, with reading, and maths that I know my son loves to do.
We even played scrabble for the first time and he asked to play again tomorrow.
I am so glad that I had my phone to help me, dur to not being able to spell very well dur to my dyslixia.
It helped a lot and even allowed my son to read the words, know how they should sound, spell them and know their meaning too.

Over the next couple of weeks I am looking at different ways to shop for the food that I need for my family and loved ones. At the moment I still get help due to Covid 19 and my children being homed schooled due to being on benefits. I also still Claim Health Start vouchers.
Again I keep saying that this is wrong and that the government should allow very parent in the UK to claim Healthy start vouchers for their children up until the age of 4. After all these vouchers are for your child and to help support and promote healthy eating.
Down falls of Healthy Start Vouchers now that they are a card from 2022.
Not being able to be used on line and only in person.
Only a selected number of places will take these vouches., card from 2022.
You can also only use them on selected items still so do not cater for vegans or vegetarian milk options.
You can get the money from an ATM or pay in store using chip and pin.
Not every child is entitled to them.
For pregnant mother and children under 4 but not every women and child due to government guidelines.

So what about those of use who are still shopping on line because of Covid 19 and using online shopping as a new way to still shop?
Over the past 5 years I have used shops that I know and trust. But last year I have to think outside that box because these could not deliver.
This year I am doing the same and looking at different places to but fresh organic food locally for my family.
Yes I get healthy start voucher what works out at about £30.00 per month off my major shop, but I will only get these for any other few months. So I am looking at were these I can shop and try and save money now.

Breath!
This year so far is not how I planed it to be.
I am still homing schooling my son and will be reapplying for his DLA for the next 12 months that is now turned into PIP.
I am still not happy now we are still in the waiting list to get a dull assessment for his SEN needs to be confirmed and that the school refused and ELP for him.
Home schooling is very changing due to it to always being one to one. I know that this is what my son needs and yet my other children need mum too.
The one good thing is that my children are learning all the time and now I know what it is they are learning and it is not behind closed doors.
I finally have all of his school work and I am not happy with the way the school tried to hide his progression from me and the issues that they were facing that meant that his needs where not being fully met.
This also means that he was not meeting his full potential.
I am aiming to turn this around with in the next 6-12 months.
